The first thing to say is don't be overwhelmed by the choice! You should not feel that you have to decide to one system and stick religiously to it. Many people have a wide range of nappies in their collections for varying purposes. That is one of the beauties of using cloth nappies - the versatility. All-In-One

Generally the most expensive type of nappy
Pocket
- Pocket made by having liner layer and waterproof layer stitched together leaving an opening to hold a folded absorbent pad or insert
- Can vary amount of absorbency for different children/times of day
- Different sizes or one size fits from birth to toddler (in most cases!) depending on the brand
- Tend to have a slimmer fit
- Can be prepared in advance thereby making it as easy to use as an All-In-One
- Fasten with either poppers or hook and loop
- Separate waterproof pocket and absorbent layers allow for fast drying
- Generally a more expensive type of nappy, similar in price to All-In-One
Separates - Shaped

Shaped, folded and stiched for convenience with need for a separate waterproof cover

Snug fitting with elasticated legs and waist - generally best for containment

Different sizes or one size fits from birth to toddler (in most cases!) depending on the brand

Fit usually slightly less bulky than All-In-One type but more bulky than Pocket type

Fasten with either poppers, hook and loop

Has drying times which vary greatly according to fabric

Separates - Flat

Longest lifespan - no elastic to wear out!

Liners

Available in two main types - disposable/flushable and washable

Used inside nappy and allow liquids to pass through on to absorbent layer, helping to keep skin dry

Booster Pads

A shaped cloth pad used with nappy to add extra absorbency

Ideal for temporary boosts such as night-time, car journeys and at times when wetting increases

Come in variety of sizes and fabrics
